About

Life Moves Too Fast is the personal blog of Don Krutewicz.

In 1985, one of John Hughes’ characters muttered the words ‘Life Moves Pretty Fast, if you don’t stop and take a look around every once in a while, you could miss it.’ I am, of course, talking about Ferris Bueller. I have no shame in admitting this is one of my favorite films of all time. But better even, one of my favorite movie quotes. It has since become one of my life mantras.

I have had many blogs and many online personalities. I have been otherwise engaged in new media and technology for over half my life, employed as such for just shy of 10 years. By day, I am an IT manager for a large, private multinational. In my career I have also done a stint in consulting, and worked for a start-up e-commerce provider, taking it from a small 16-man business to one with 250 employees and $25M in revenue during my 5-year tenure.

I began interacting with people online through the Prodigy Service in 1990, later moving to America Online. It was through these two services that I first met people I conversed with online, offline. I would consider this social networking in its infancy. I began blogging using Blogger in 1999. Blogging became, as it does many, an online diary of my trials and tribulations as a young professional. Online networking tools such as Facebook, Digg and Twitter have now forever changed the definition of communication and collaboration. I have since met many folks like myself, and set out to start a new blog sharing the news, stories and fun adventures I deem noteworthy as I go about my life.

LMTF is my latest effort to share things that I find are worth mentioning to people like myself. These are 20 to 30-somethings, gainfully employed in tech, and/or are engaged in the online community. Ok, ok, so there is no niche. Yet, at least. I typically blog about news and events from the world around us, with a dash of travel, personal rants and technolust thrown in for good measure.

I live in St. Louis, Missouri with my wife, Colleen, and two cats. I have no kids, travel extensively, rant a lot, love German automobiles and have an unhealthy infatuation with Scarlett Johannson.

Top 10 Things You Need to Know About Me

  • I actually have no desire to be a parent. I also do not believe my life is incomplete without having a child. Surprisingly, neither does my wife.
  • I won’t show much emotion on the subject, but I have an incredibly strong bond with my parents and talk to them almost daily. Even ‘all growed up’, I value this relationship almost more than life itself.
  • Traveling is clearly the cornerstone of my being. Appreciation for culture, geography, and history are paramount to my values and morals as a human being. Four weeks is too long between trips and I get stir-crazy if I do not have future travels to look forward to.
  • I can tell you the airport code for cities from Phuket, Thailand to Fargo, North Dakota. I can be quizzed on world capitals. I can also tell you where most US telephone prefixes and zip codes originate.
  • I secretly want to quit my six-figure job, move West and be self employed miles from the nearest neighbor.
  • My favorite movies are Lost in Translation, Syriana and Babel.
  • I do not listen to popular music or watch local news. I couldn’t tell you 90% of the songs playing on Top 40 radio.
  • I have visited 47 of the 50 states, and over 35 countries. I had a goal to visit all seven continents before age thirty. Damn marriage and career and stuff. My favorite country: Denmark.
  • I have never tried smoking or any drugs of any kind. The older I have become, the less tolerance I have for either.
  • I suffer from Amelogenesis Imperfecta, or the loss of tooth enamel. This is the only thing from which I suffer reduced self-confidence. Oh, and I clearly have paid for my dentists childrens’ college education.
